Photoshoot
Australian National Botanic Gardens
Sunday 15th June, 10:00am-2:00pm
Hello Hehir family!
THANK YOU for agreeing to be an important part of this project!
I’ve put together some information about what to expect, as well as things we need you to wear and bring on the day.
If you have any questions, or I’ve missed something important to you, please don’t hesitate to call me directly on 0409 069 699.
Thank you again for being so generous with your time.
Trish Johnstone
Creative Director
The project
The photos that we’re taking will be used by the Australian National Botanic Gardens (ANBG), specifically on their website and social media, as well as general marketing.
They’re looking to update their photo library and give the website a lift, but also reflect the vibrancy of the gardens and how people use it.
The last time we did a photoshoot, Mel took some beautiful photos for the Plant Science Learning Hub. These were used Australia-wide and helped primary and high school aged children learn more about seeds, the plant lifecycle, and pollination.
Your photos will have more of a tourism feel to them, and we’re mainly focussed on capturing your experience in the garden as a family.
Oath + Stone and Mel Hill Photography will use these images in their portfolio from time to time. You can be assured that these images will never be used for anything more than they were originally intended for (for example, you won’t see your child being used for another client’s project).
Our team
-
Trish Johnstone
CREATIVE DIRECTOR
Trish is the owner of Oath + Stone, and has been working closely with Mel and our ANBG counterparts to get the best shots possible.
Trish has been a graphic designer for nearly 20 years, and has a keen eye for detail. She loves collaborating with other creatives on shoots like this, and making it a great experience for everyone involved.
Trish lives on QLD’s Sunshine Coast and is expecting a baby on the 17th June, so she’s supporting the project from afar! -
Mel and Corinne
PHOTOGRAPHER
Mel is a talented portrait photographer, well known in the Canberra community. She tells us that “capturing major life moments and creating lasting memories to keep and hand down between generations is my favourite and most rewarding part of my job”.
We’ve asked her to be a part of this project not only because of her light and bright style, but because of her ability to get the best out of our little people. She’s friendly, kind, FUN, and can get the best angle of your family.
Corinne will step in as her assistant on the day, making sure we’re running to time, getting the shots we need, and everyone has kept up their hydration!
Schedule:
9:50am
Please meet at the Visitor Centre at Australian National Botanic Gardens. You’ll find this at the top of the carpark, and it will be on your left before you walk over the bridge into the Gardens. Please come dressed in your first outfit.
10:00am-12:15pm
We’ll start by taking some photos in and around the Visitor Centre and Gardens entry.
We’ll then move over to Pollen Cafe where we’ll photograph you enjoying some of the food and beverages on the deck, and maybe even some picnic shots on the Friends Lawn. After this we’ll ask you to change into your second outfits.
Our last stop in this time slot will be at the Banskia Garden and Paperbark Treehouse.
12:15-1:15pm
You’ll head back to Visitor Centre and change into your third outfits. You’ll be joined by a few more people to make it look like you’re taking a tour on the Flora Bus. After you take a few shots here, it will take you to the Rainforrest Gully and then up to the Red Centre Garden.
1:15-2:00pm
You’ll say goodby to the group and take a few last photos on the Eucalypt Lawn and at the Rock Garden. Then we’ll call it a wrap!
What to wear
DO’S:
Plain casual clothes - t-shirts / shorts / skirt / jeans / dress
Neutral patterns and colours — stripes and dots are fine
Clean and ironed clothes - very important as we can’t Photoshop out wrinkles later!
Brushed hair and clean shoes
Subtle hair clips or ribbons for girls are fine
Please three options for clothes for each person, e.g. you could keep the same pants, but swap out the shirt, or bring a new dress.
DONT’S:
Anything with a brand symbol on it - e.g. Nike Swoosh
Slogans or big illustrations
Loud patterns or super bright colours like neon
Hats or bandanas
Heavy makeup
Sparkles or dressy outfits you’d wear to a nice dinner
Anything too coordinated - we want you to look cohesive, but not like a Christmas card.
What you can expect from us
Payment for your time
Each adult will receive $200, and the three children will receive $100 each for participating in our shoot. Oath + Stone will transfer this money to you directly within a couple of weeks of the shoot, so please kindly provide your bank details.
Model release forms
We will have model release forms available, which parents must sign on behalf of their child. These forms outline the responsibility we have to use the images in the way we intended, as well as your consent for us to photograph your child. You’ll receive one from Oath + Stone, as well as from ANBG.
You can download them both here, and choose to return them digitally to trish@oathandstone.com.au, or print them out and bring them on the day. Please complete one form per member of the family.
Snacks and drinks
We’ll be covering a fair bit of ground and realise bellies start to rumble and concentration waivers after some time, so we’ll have some nibbles and bottled water available throughout the shoot. If you’d like to come earlier and get a coffee, Pollen Cafe opens from 9:00am.
If your child has any allergies, please let us know as soon as possible so we can keep them safe and make sure there’s something they are able to enjoy.
